Tad reports 260 migrating raptors today.

Broad-winged Hawk 140
Swainson’s Hawk 5
Sharp-shinned Hawk 54
Cooper’s Hawk 5
Turkey Vulture 6
Black Vulture 4
American Kestrel 27
Peregrine Falcon 3
Merlin 1
Northern Harrier 11

A glorious day at the hawk watch for counting raptors but the hawks didn’t get the memo. The wind was right and the sky was good but the birds just weren’t there. Marvin Masters was very helpful with the count spotting what birds there were. Birds of note include 6 Wood Storks, 3 American Avocets flying over, a Rufous Hummingbird on the feeders, and another dark Broad-winged Hawk.

The Smith Point Hawk Watch is funded entirely through donations and grants. We have received a number of donations! Thank you! We still need additional funding however. If you would like to make a contribution, you can do so on our website. We appreciate the support very much!
