It was a pleasant fall day with moderate easterly winds. Early on the only birds were lots of Scissor-tailed Flycatchers and hundreds of swallows, but the hawks didn’t take long to appear. About midday three staggered groups (coordinated to arrive about 45 minutes apart) of boys from a local academy joined us on the tower, each with binoculars and eager to see hawks. They were not disappointed. Surprisingly there seemed to be more migrating Anhingas today than ibis. Also surprising were the three large flocks of white pelicans, each with 200 to 300 birds. It was a good day.
