It’s that time of the year again – the great fall hawk migration is in full swing! Our fantastic hawk counter Bob has returned to join our flock, and has already recorded a variety of species. As usual, during the beginning of the fall season the numbers have been a bit slow. Don’t let this discourage you, as we have seen a whopping number of Mississippi Kites which are well into the hundreds and plenty of Broad-winged Hawks. On the non-raptor side of things, we have seen a shocking amount of Cliff and Barn Swallows as of late, over six thousand to be specific! We have also seen a few Olive-sided Flycatchers hanging around in the oak mottes around the observation tower. As we get further into the season, expect to see an increase in raptors, so come on down to check off some species from your life list!
