Description

Spend a day in the field with GCBO Director of Conservation Research Susan Heath monitoring nesting American Oystercatchers in either West Galveston Bay or East Matagorda Bay. Our day will start around 8:00 am and we will check on all pairs of oystercatchers present in the bay using the GCBO boat. If we find a new nest, we will document it by taking a latitude and longitude and a photo. Previously documented nests will be monitored to make sure the birds are still incubating. If there are chicks, we will check to make sure they are still present. From March through May we may be banding adults and from May through June we may be banding chicks. Trip available March through June 2020 for one or two people. Participants must be physically able to spend a day on a boat including lots of sun.
