Description

Enjoy a half day of searching for Red-cockaded Woodpeckers, Bachman’s Sparrows, Brown-headed Nuthatches, and other species in the Pineywoods of East Texas with TPWD ornithologist Cliff Shackelford. You and a guest will receive a full morning of one-on-one birding attention with your guide who has nearly 4 decades of experience birding in Texas. Cliff will also take you to a pitcher plant bog and an abandoned sawmill that was active a century ago.  Most of the tour will be spent in beautiful longleaf pine forests, one of the rarest forest-types in the country. Less than 4% of mature longleaf pine forests remain today yet it once was the dominant forest-type of the uplands of the entire southeastern U.S. Tour will start before daylight in Lufkin and end around lunchtime. Tour available weekdays (no weekends) from mid-March to April 2022.

Some covid precautions will be practiced.
